Melbourne through my eyes
(Super long post)
Don't really like late night flights, ☹ I need my sleep. Arrived in Sydney and took the shuttle bus to the domestic airport for my flight to Melbourne.
My studded top that reflects light like a disco ball.
Bought smoked salmon sushi roll (~3aud) , spring roll (~1aud) and krispy kreme original glazed (~2aud) to munch on. Everything's yummy when you're hungry! Hehee~
Arrived in Melbourne and the weather was gloomy. ☹ Drizzled on and off the rest of the night. We got a ride to our cosy apartment around Bank street. For the first time, there will be no hotels, just apartments. And since the host is accommodating us for free, we're crashing the living room. It may sound bad, but it really was quite comfy and the host was very nice and provided us with almost everything! What's even better? The host and his housemates all cook really awesome food! ✌
Headed out for dinner together at Captain Melvia. Fish and chips (24aud) was so-so. ☹
Fried chicken (18aud) was not bad with the sauce though not as great as expected, given the ambiance of the place. The best was the chicken with cheese on top. The food was pretty pricey but should be cheaper with more people sharing.
After dinner, housemates made tang yuan for us. ☻ and wine to celebrate the end of exams! ☻ They proceeded to giving us a lecture on their guide to getting around Melbourne, hence, the map drawn for us. Hahaha~ So cute people! And we really did brought the map out!
2
Explored Melbourne city area on our own the next day with a simplistic map drawn for us by one of the housemates! Super useful! Hahaha~ Following their recommendations, we headed to Hardware Societe for brunch. It's along little Lonsdale and we can take a tram from our place but we got a lift from one of the housemates! :D The baked eggs and mushrooms V are awesome! ☻ The coffee wasn't bitter yet didn't have such a strong coffee aroma as well. The latte and cappuccino are not bad. For 2 mains and 3 drinks, we spent a total of 47.4aud for 3. The portions are just right for one. It's a little pricey but the food was really worth it! ☻☻☻ Thumbs up!
Headed to the library after...
It's a really grand monument, and the building not only looks grand from the outside but inside as well. The library was sooo quiet, i don't even dare to walk properly, i had to tiptoe so as not to disturb anyone!
Queen Victoria's market was next. They have dairy, meat, organic, fruits, vegetables and a wet market. We can get everything we want and the produce looks really fresh! Everything seems really cheap. Got a box of tomatoes (1aud), strawberries (4aud), cheese (3 for 10), about 15 slices of par ma ham (18aud), avocados (2aud each), baby spinach and mushrooms (~7aud). Except the fruits, the rest are for cooking a meal with risotto the following day. I am so not a cooker, but thankfully I get to know awesome friends who cook awesome food, I think I might be able to start on it. HAHAHA :X
There's also a market at QV for clothes, bags and other random stuff but i didn't buy any for myself since they were the exact same ones i can get from Bangkok.
Bought donuts that tastes super duper yummy! SO soft! And it's only for 1aud each!
Sat for a while and took in the scenery and good weather that day while enjoying our fresh produce we bought.
Walked around for a short while and spotted a pet shop!
Walked a few blocks to Lyegon street for some good old hot chocolate at Koko Black (~9aud), honeycomb dark chocolate and honeycomb milk chocolate half slices (~9aud), mini new york cheesecake and mini sencher torte (2.20 per slice), cardinale pasta at Cafe Cornetto, half and half pizza of mexican and marinara flavour, Jauja's homemade ice cream flavours durian caramel with walnuts. Everything is seriously very yummy! And so, it made me happy~✌ :P
Got a little lost but since the city is designed in grids, we'll probably get to somewhere walking vertically or horizontally. Haha~ took the tram and got off at the wrong stop, one stop earlier. But it's okay, since we've been randomly walking the whole day, it doesn't matter walking that bit more. And we can explore anyways~
3
Slept in for a bit longer because we were soo tired. Woke up to head to Sushi Burger place at Chinatown. Ordered spicy salmon sushi burger and soft shell crab sushi burger. One sushi burger and a side of gyoza, vegetable gyoza or fried calamaris cost about 15aud while the burger itself cost 7.50aud. The sauce is great! But a little pricey for the portion. But since we found a strand of hair in the soft shell crab burger, we got a new burger! HOHOHO~ the gyozas are really good too!
Shopped around Chinatown and i have no idea where we're walking but we walked this street up and down for almost the whole day like goondu(s)! LOL Butttt, the sale was sooo good! Totally worth it! ✌
Headed to Dzunt for Vietnamese food. The paper rolls are bad, even with prawns in it. Guess I'm not a fan of cold dishes except the appetisers for banquets and certain salads. :P
The spicy noodles are so-so. Not as flavourful as I expected it to be. The paper rolls are 9aud and large bowl of noodles ~11aud.
Wanted to go for coffee but they were closed already. ☹ Bought a bottle at the weirdest place, a furniture stall. We were supposed to go in for some shelter from the cold and I ended up buying my most expensive buy yet, hello kitty water bottle. LOL. But I love it! ✌♥✌♥✌♥
Next, we were in a rush to get groceries for cooking a meal for everyone, and having to pick up our final member (And our trip officially begins! :D) that blur sotongs, like us, left the groceries when we went to chill for a bit at Max Brenner's and had to take a lift from one of the housemates to Cole's to get them again. ☹
Anyway, Max Brenner's coffee was good. Cappuccino was only 3.60aud, topped with chocolate sauce. :D
Anddddd, here's the home cook meal! Avocado with milk that looks like Matcha ice cream, risotto with par ma ham ☻, mushrooms ☻and baby spinach ☻, and roasted chicken peeled into strips for easy eating by the housemates! ✌
And here's all the commotion from their latest buy from catchoftheday.com! LOL inflatable boxing gloves! I felt like i was living in an episode of 'How I Met Your Mother'!!! It's cool that everyone was SO humorous and hospitable. ☻ It really made our trip so much more fun. ☻

Road trip!
Took a 2 days tour along the great ocean road coastal drive to the Grampians. Stopped by Anglesea beach, a small town for lunch, Maits test, Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorges and London bridge.
5
Headed
to see Mackenzie falls, Australia's little Grand Canyon, and a wine
making area. it was such a pity because i wasn't dress right and my
shoes didn't allow me to go all the way up to the top of Grand Canyon. ☹
What a pity!!! Missed out on a great view! ☹
Grabbed brunch at Livefast cafe and the eggs are so good! It seems that brunch in Melbourne is really good! For ~12-15aud.
At Best Winery and this is the fastest i have ever drank 4 glasses of wine. The wine is really good. ✌ And cheap too! ✌
We were really lucky and spotted whales along the way twice! ✌✌✌That's a really rare sight and tour guide, Andy, says that the last time he saw them was 4 years ago. And we saw loads of kangaroos and wallaby along the way to our hostel.
The fish and chips were realllly awesome! Can't compare to any of those I've eaten in Singapore! So good that we ate it twice. The one at the town cost ~9ad and the other nearer to the Grampians was ~4aud.
Headed back after that for some Korean BBQ with the housemates! They took us to Guhung for awesome meat!!! We had soy bean soup, bulgogi, marbled beef, pork belly, wagyu and the scotch fillet. All around 22 aud each.
Headed to Joomak after that
for awesome drinks and more food! Loved everything! The corn cheese,
kimchi soup, lychee soju, peach soju, mango rice wine, peach rice wine,
and the chicken gilbert. But I'm not really into gilbert though the way
they cook it is really delicious. :/
6
Tired us slept in even though we wanted to head out for brunch. Ended up having a meal of Indonesian food which the housemates took us to. Ayam bahar ~11aud, ayam goreng 11 aud, and oxtail soup for us! I love the ayam bahar because of the sauce!
Headed to Flinders street in search of super nice Churros with white chocolate dip! 3 for ~9aud!
Shopped
around in town the whole day before heading back with takeaway sushi.
Homesickness kicking in and we decided to cook some Tom Yum Maggie Mee!
7
Road trip day with the housemates to Camberwell and later on to Dandenong mountain. Camberwell market sells second hand stuff like Scape flea but the only difference is that anyone can sell anything! Even cutlery, paintings, lamps, books or even maps. The clothes they were selling were all so pretty! Pretty good buys for second hand and it's negotiable. :)
Donut truck sells awesome donuts. Really soft and fluffy! Yet again! ✌
Headed to dandenong mountain for brunch at Miss Marple's. Beef cottage pie, scones with whipped cream and jam.
Tea leaves shop with loads of cute teapots!
Skyhigh. Checked out the view of Melbourne from way up high. ✌✌✌
BBQ back at the apartment with everyone, including one of the housemates' parents. They can really really cook! I can't stop saying that! The beef was marinated so damn well, the chicken wings were so savoury and best of all, chili that is spicy! Can't stop eating or rather stop thinking about food at all when with them! LOVE IT! ✌☻
They're a cool and fun bunch of people! Though I was really tired but I thoroughly enjoyed their company. ☻ Definitely a good one. Really thankful for their hospitality, all their help and entertaining us all the time! ☻
That marks the end of a great trip to Melbourne.

One day, during a room warming, a group of 5 crazy girls decided to create a blog to pen down our daily life and thoughts individually. Why five fingers you may ask. The reason is because, one day while taking a group shot infront of a mirror, we noticed our height resembles the fingers. ( Lame i know but wdv )Our group name changed for quite a number of times alr, we originated from SPGS (not sarongpartygirls hor) So anyway, this blog will be updated by daily basis accordingly to our "positions"
The thumb, Gene will be blogging on Monday. Index finger, Xiuwen (axw) on Tuesday. Middle finger(so crude LOL), Huimin (heemii) on Wed. Ring finger, Candice on Thurs and lastly our pinky Carmen on fri.
So yeah, do check us out on a daily basis! Cheers! :)
